Barbara Bags Top Award

Submitted by Barbara Keen 30th Sept 2022

Barbara Keen 78 year old Carlisle lady wins North England Prestige awards for Accessories store of the Year.

The judges were impressed with the range of social media Barbara uses including a podcast. They were impressed with the personal touch, community feel and passion for what she does.

Barbara started All Day Bags in response to the general public wanting to use less plastic and in particular plastic bags. Her original bag was for laptop shoes and shopping and now includes other designs. Wanting to use and promote British made textiles she uses Harris Tweed, Linton Tweed and tartan.

Barbara said ‘ Made in Britain is important to me. It means I can connect with the textile makers  and have short supply chains. She is very particular about the quality of her Bags and has not had one returned. That includes the fabric she uses and the detail to make them. ‘

Barbara uses her Mothers 100 year old sewing machine to make the bags and has recently had to conquer an overlocker.

Having sold directly to the public Barbara is now looking for retail stockists for her bags.
