Heft to represent the North of England in the Countryside Alliance Awards Grand Final

We're proud to announce that Heft, High Newton, is a regional business winner in the pub category of the England leg of the Countryside Alliance Awards 2023.

Heft won through to claim the North of England pub title, and now owners Kevin & Nicola Tickle and their team will go forward to the grand final, with the chance of adding the overall UK title to their name.

The Cumbrian inn and restaurant will now compete against fellow winners from across Wales, Scotland and England to see who claims the plaudits, which will be announced at a Champions Reception held at the House of Lords, on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

The overall winner in each category will be selected by The Countryside Alliance’s national judging panel, which is chaired by Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Tim Bonner, food critic and author William Sitwell, and Daily Telegraph Associate Editor Philip Johnston.

Heft’s co-owner Nicola Tickle said: ''Winning the North of England title is fantastic news. From the outset we’ve set out to do something different and ensure that our small village pub is an asset to the local community. Winning the North of England regional title certainly recognises that what we are doing at Heft and is being well received and we want to thank everyone that has supported us in getting this far.’’

Bringing an Easter smile to Cockermouth people’s faces

Lyn Osbaldeston, who runs the New to You by The Cumbrian Wordsmith shop in Market Place, at the bottom of Castlegate, is making up seasonal goody bags for the Linking Lives charity. It’s the second time she has donated gifts to the charity after sharing vouchers for local businesses at Christmas.   Lyn sells quality second hand items and also has a mug printing business and a percentage of her sales goes to charity. The John Peel Theatre's Robin Hood The Pantomime Opening Night Success

  Showcase Cumbria attended the first opening night of the well-awaited and anticipated Robin Hood The Pantomime at Wigton's historical and award-winning John Peel Theatre.  It was attended by all ages as well as the attendance Wigton Mayor Christopher Scott who all enjoyed the show. Written by David Ross, this version of Robin Hood The Pantomime has all the hallmarks of a classic Panto but has it's own take with lovely surprises and turns, much to the delight of the those watching.  It pulls also from the story of Robin Hood but stands as it's own creation taking recognisable parts of well-known stories, music and movies and rolling it into one, which is both brilliant and witty.  It kept everyone engaged till the end, from the fun boos and to the awwws. There were plenty of laughs, clapping and smiles.
