Submitted by  Araminta Hartley GNAAS 9th March 2023 A family who required the help of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) has raised thousands of pounds for the charity by recycling unwanted clothing. Will Clark, from Grasmere, has been a keen supporter of GNAAS, since he required their services back in July 2012, following a serious cycling incident. Recalling what happened, he said: “Tragically during a charity triathlon, a stick got caught in the wheel of my bike sending me over the handlebars leading to me breaking the right side of my neck with permanent damage at the C4 vertebrae. This led to me being paralysed from the shoulders down. “Being young and fit I hadn't given GNAAS much thought prior to this accident.  Submitted by Jonny Irving 9th March 2023 Reindeer Run Total Revealed Thousands of schoolchildren from across  the county  who donned  r eindeer  antlers  last Christmas  for charity have raised almost £27,000 for Jigsaw, Cu mbria’s Children’s Hospice. More than 3,800 primary -aged  pupils from 32  schools supported Jigsaw’s second-annual Reindeer Run  fundraiser which challenged youngsters to raise as much money as possible  for the only children’s hospice in Cumbria. The series of school-based events took place throughout December with the final money now collected and counted revealing a grant total of £26,959. Submitted by  Araminta Hartley  GNAAS 7th March 2023 Dr John Ferris and paramedic Andy Dalton The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) is one step closer to providing critical care 24/7 in Cumbria after expanding its all-night rapid response vehicle service to four nights a week.  GNAAS initially launched their night-time service in the region in May 2021, covering Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm to 8am, when the charity’s air ambulances do not fly.  The car carries the same life-saving equipment as its airborne counterpart and is staffed by a highly skilled paramedic and doctor team who can deliver blood, anaesthetic procedures, and other advanced treatments to critically ill or injured patients.  Last year GNAAS’ critical care team was deployed 154 times on a rapid response vehicle to incidents in Cumbria, including road traffic collisions and cardiac arrests.  The charity has been working hard to fund the additional nights, and recently expanded...

 Submitted by Jonny Irving Eden Valley Hospice 6th March 2023 A n artist from Carlisle is hoping he r latest project will provide a n everlasting   tribute to her sister and a special gift to  the  charity who cared for her  at the end of her life. Creator Sue Simmons, who produces art under the banner ‘Sooz in The Shed’,  has spent the last six months producing 100 glass sculptures  which she has  called Eternal Flames . The glass sculptures represent  the memory of a loved  one  never dying  an d will be raising money for Eden Valley Hospice . The hospice cared for Sue’s sister Julie  Wood  in late 2020 when  her symptoms of  cancer  worsened,  and s he died in the hospice in December of that year aged 48.
